Our memorial service was held on the fantail and recognition was given to our shipmates that have passed away. It didn't take long for the BARTON shipmates to find that moving about the ship wasn't as easy as when they were on active duty, especially going up and down the ladders. The museum is one of the best, with many ship models and a lot of naval history throughout. We had a catered lunch at the site and many of us spent a lot of time at the KIDD during our stay in Baton Rouge. In the past, the group has met in Las Vegas, San Diego and Branson, Missouri but Omaha as one draw those other cities lack. In Freedom Park, along the Missouri River, the Captain's gig--from the new decommissioned and sunk TOWERS sits among other military exhibits. Some of the men had seen the landlocked gig before. During one trip through Omaha, the Park was locked. That didn't stop former coxswain K.D. "Snake" Shook of Oklahoma. Snake clilmbed the fence.
